MBIRA sponsors mbira instruments for Zimbabwean schools, to encourage transmission of traditional music to the next generation.

During 2018, we provided mbiras to the Jairos Jiri Primary School for disabled students!

So far, sets of instruments have been sponsored for schools in the Nyamweda area of Mhondoro Communal Area, Chinhoyi High School #2 in the town of Chinhoyi, St. Bede’s Primary School in Dewedzo (near Mujuru Village), Chidiya Primary School in Murehwa Communal Area, and a set for the children who live at a sacred shrine in Chiweshe Communal Area. Occasionally, MBIRA has also donated instruments to specific children who show extreme promise as mbira players and lack an instrument.
